Police: Union City woman busted in Hoboken for stealing Uber Eats vehicle left running

A Union City woman was busted in Hoboken for stealing an Uber Eats vehicle left running and unoccupied near McDonald’s on Sunday, police said.

Diana Penaherrera, 31, of Union City, was charged with burglary and theft of movable property, according to Police Det. Lt. Danilo Cabrera.

At around 3:56 a.m. on Sunday, Officers Ricky Truppner and Marvin Dejesus responded to 234 Washington St. on a report of a stolen vehicle. The officers met up with the victim who identified himself as an Uber Eats delivery driver, officials said.

The victim had left his vehicle running and unoccupied when he entered McDonald’s to pick up an order. At about 3:47 a.m., while the victim was inside McDonald’s, the victim observed an unknown woman with blond hair enter his vehicle, police said.

The woman then fled with his vehicle south on Washington Street. Surrounding agencies were notified of the incident and at approximately 4:11 a.m., Hudson County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle in Union City, authorities said.

The vehicle was found in the area of 15th and John F. Kennedy Boulevard with the keys in the ignition. Det. Adam Colon of the Hoboken Police Investigations Bureau was assigned to this case.

On Wednesday, February 5th, Colon, through his investigation, was able to charge Diana Penaherrera with burglary and theft of movable property.

Penaherrera’s charges were placed on a summons with a court date to appear in Central Judicial Processing in Hudson County Superior Court. She was also issued a motor vehicle summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended licenses, police said.

The victim of the motor vehicle theft was issued a summons for leaving his vehicle running and unoccupied, authorities said.
