“I have had a chance to work on a variety of community issues with the members of the Education Matters team and know that Sudhan Thomas, Gerald Lyons, Darwin Ona, Gina Verdibello and LeKendrick Shaw will all work very hard to ensure equity and quality in the education of all of our children,” O’Dea said in a joint statement.

“Being that my wife is a dedicated teacher serving the children of the JCPS, I have seen firsthand the positive changes that are occurring in the classrooms brought on by the
hard work of Sudhan Thomas, Gerald Lyons and Gina Verdibello,” added Rivera, who noted that he has worked with Darwin Ona and LeKendrick Shaw.

O’Dea and Rivera are two of the most prominent officials to make endorsements in the contest, where 13 candidates are running.

“Bill O’Dea is a selfless politician who has served the Hudson County for many decades. Councilman Danny Rivera has worked tirelessly for the youth and advancement of the minorities in Jersey City particularly the Hispanic/Latino population,” noted Education Matters campaign manager Mike Greco.

“O’Dea and Rivera are great advocates of public education with excellent labor credentials which make their endorsements of the Education Matters team the most meaningful of our campaign.”

Election Day is on November 5th.
