The Hudson County Democratic Unity ticket consisted of U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), U.S. Reps. Rob Menendez (D-8), Nellie Pou (D-9), and LaMonica McIver (D-10), County Register Jeff Dublin, and County Commissioner candidates Kenny Kopacz (D-1), Bill O’Dea (D-2), Pam Johnson (D-3), Yraida Aponte-Lipski (D-4), Ron Bautista (D-5), Fanny Cedeno (D-6), Caridad Rodriguez (D-7), Bob Baselice (D-8), and Alex Valdez (D-9).

Menendez, McIver, and Dublin were re-elected in landslides, with Valdez winning the only contested commissioner race, as HCV first reported. Everyone else on the slate ran unopposed.

“We were proud to be among the first to support Governor Sherrill in her historic campaign for governor last November and tonight’s results are a critically important next step in our efforts to create a more inclusive and impactful Hudson County Democratic Organization,” Guy began in a statement.

“We committed to doing the hard work required to make sure our organization best represents the ever-expanding voices and true conscience that represents ALL of our shared democratic values, and tonight is true validation of that commitment.”

He further stated that the “harmful policies” of the President Donald Trump (R) administration is to recognize we are stronger together, which is what all of these candidates will do.

Guy, also the county executive, also said this team will prioritize creating more affordable housing, keeping streets, and neighborhoods safe, and prioritizing children’s educations.

The HCDO also backed a four-person Kearny town council slate endorsed by Mayor Carol Jean Doyle, who split the race down the middle with a team that had three incumbent councilmen.

Harrison Mayor James Fife and his council team, as well as two East Newark at-large council members, were also re-elected in uncontested races.

“I also want to congratulate the Harrison Mayoral, council and committee candidates, as well as the East Newark Council and committee candidates on their victories,” Guy concluded.

“Congratulations to all those who ran for Kearny council, especially to candidates [George] Zapata, [Sarah] Bonilla, [Julio] Huancaya, and [Orlando] Miranda. Working together, Hudson County Democrats will continue to lead the way.”
