The Jersey City Fire Department responded to 154 Summit Ave. at approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, began public safety spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a working fire and immediately initiated rescue operations inside the structure.
They safely rescued three people, including two that were rescued out of a window on the second floor onto a porch roof and brought to the ground by an aerial ladder, Wallace-Scalcione noted.
Additionally, four residents were brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, which largely appears to be smoke inhalation. During fire suppression operations, a captain fell and struck his head and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
While the blaze appear to begin after a nearby car caught fire, the official cause is under investigation, with mine adults and two children are being relocated with assistance from the American Red Cross.
