On Tuesday at approximately 8:28 p.m., the Secaucus Police Department was called to the Red Roof Inn, located at 15 Meadowlands Parkway, for an alleged dog attack in the parking lot, Police Chief Dennis Miller told HCV.

The owner had five cane corsos corralled in his car after they attacked a man and a woman, who were both treated at the Hackensack University Medical Center. The female victim required surgery, authorities said.

A Secaucus municipal humane law enforcement officer conducted an investigation and an application was made through the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office for a seizure order, which was obtained yesterday and allowed Secaucus police to seize three of the dogs.

Miller added that the HCPO is reviewing the incident to see if any criminal charges will be filed, while municipal summonses are being prepared.

There was another incident involving the same man and his dogs yesterday in Hoboken, public safety spokeswoman Marci Rubin confirmed via email.

At approximately 1 p.m. yesterday, Hoboken police office responded to the Shop Rite parking lot, 900 Madison St., on reports of a possible dog attack.

According to Rubin, an on-scene investigation revealed the incident involved a total of 11 dogs: Eight were being walked by two different dog walkers and on leashes.

The other three were unleashed, exited a nearby vehicle and, attempted to attack the larger group of leashed dogs, unprovoked. As a result of the attack, one dog suffered injuries.

Additionally, both dog walkers suffered sprained wrists while trying to control the animals that were leashed, noted Rubin.

“The three aggressive dogs were corralled by their owner back into the vehicle they had exited. The owner left the area prior to police arriving. An investigation has revealed those three dogs were later seized by Secaucus police,” Rubin explained.

She added that the Hoboken PD is not filing any charges against the dog owner, though he did not get away scot free.

” … The Jersey City Animal Control Officer, on behalf of Hoboken as the city’s contracted animal control agency, has issued three summonses to the owner for having potentially dangerous dogs,” added Rubin.

“He was additionally issued a summons for violating an August 2025 consent order from the Hoboken Health Division, which stated the resident’s dogs would be muzzled and leashed whenever they are out in public. Fines are up to $1,000 for each violation.”

She further stated that the Hoboken Health Division continues to assist the Secaucus Police Department with their investigation, while the down owner surrendered three additional dogs to Jersey City animal control after the second incident took place.
