A second 17-year-old teenager has been arrested for the fatal December Jersey City shooting that killed 16-year-old Pedro Rodriguez, authorities said.

The 17-year-old surrendered himself to detectives with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit in Jersey City yesterday, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

He is charged as a juvenile with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is being detained at the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center pending his first court appearance.

Juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time.

On Thursday, December 16th, 2021, at approximately 11:45 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 600 Communipaw Ave. on a report of shots fired.

Responding officers found an unresponsive male victim at that location with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:00 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds and the Manner of death to be homicide.

A second 17-year-old juvenile was arrested on Monday, December 27th and he faces the same charges, officials said.
