“With the holidays around the corner, we want to ensure that everyone gets home safe,” North Bergen Police Chief Robert Dowd said in a statement.

“The North Bergen Police Department is dedicated to making our roads and neighborhoods safer. By implementing sobriety checkpoints, we are doing our part to make sure everyone has a safe holiday season.”

North Bergen police are partnering up with the Union City Police Department to hold a DWI Checkpoint within the township limits on Thanksgiving Eve: Wednesday, November 23, one of the biggest nights out of the year.

The operation hopes to eliminate intoxicated drivers on the road and help keep local residents safe.

Authorities recommend those who will be out celebrating to use a designated driver, take public transportation or a taxi, spend the night at a friend’s house, report impaired or aggressive drivers to police and buckle up regardless where you are seated in a vehicle.
