“I’ve been friends with Mayor Davis for a number of years and I know he is the best person to lead in these changing times,” Russo said in a statement.

“The mayor’s drive and determination have put Bayonne back on the right track financially and his vision and leadership will help bring the sheriff’s office into the future. The duties and responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office are critical for county residents and Mayor Davis’ values and dedication to public service make him the best man for the job.”

A retired police captain,  Davis led a special crimes unit and worked alongside prosecutors from several counties, the FBI, U.S. Treasury Department and Department of Justice.

He is currently running on the Hudson County Democratic Organization’s (HCDO) ticket in an effort to unseat five-term incumbent Frank Schillari, who is part of Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s “Democrats for Change” gubernatorial slate.

“I’ve seen the tremendous work Sheriff Russo has done in Somerset County and I am grateful for his endorsement and his friendship,” noted Davis.

“It takes a unique skill set to lead effectively and I believe that is one of the many things that sets me apart from my opponent in this election. The exorbitant financial excesses in the Sheriff’s office are a nightmare for county taxpayers but the deterioration of morale under his leadership represent an even more immediate danger for every county resident.”

The Hudson County Sheriff’s Superiors FOP 127, four public safety unions from Bayonne, and four local mayors have already endorsed Davis ahead of what looks to be a hotly contested June 10th primary.
