Jersey City Ward E Councilman James Solomon, a mayoral candidate, is urging Democrats to unite for U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-11), the gubernatorial nominee, ahead of a November 4th showdown with Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli.

“Congratulations to @mikiesherrill on securing the Democratic nomination for Governor! No matter who we backed in the primary, we must unite behind Mikie. She’s got a vision for an affordable NJ and her opponent is a Trump lapdog who cares more about pleasing him than making your life better,” he wrote on Instagram.
He added that the next governor should embrace policies that lift up Jersey City, including reliable PATH and NJ Transit service, ending the $10.7 billion Turnpike expansion project, “supporting immigrant communities from Trump’s authoritarian attacks,” a fair school funding formula, and keeping Liberty State Park free, open green space.
“The future of New Jersey and Jersey City is on the line, and I’m all in for Mikie. Let’s get to work,” the downtown councilman concluded.
Solomon did not endorse a gubernatorial candidate in the June 10th primary and he also stayed out of the Hudson County sheriff’s race.
However, he backed Katie Brennan and Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla for state Assembly in the 32nd Legislative District, who declared victory on election night. Brennan was the top vote getter, and while Bhalla’s win is close, the result is unlikely to change.
They bested Jennie Pu and Crystal Fonseca, who were backed by the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO), and Assemblyman Jessica Ramirez and Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh, who ran on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s slate.
Fulop came in third place in the gubernatorial primary, behind Sherrill and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, and he asked his supporters to work against Ciattarelli, who is endorsed by President Donald Trump (R), during his concession speech.
“Although tonight wasn’t what we wanted, it’s important that we work hard to make sure a Democrat gets elected in November,” he said at the Zeppelin Hall Biergarten Tuesday evening.
