D’Elia, also the attorney for the Bayonne Board of Education, received the presentation of the gavel from Hudson County Bar Association President Lori Cieckiewicz before receiving the presentation of the Bible from his children Kyle and Sofia, and his wife, Elinor.

A partner at high-powered Secaucus law firm Chasan, Leyner & Lamaparello that specialized in civil litigation for over 25 years, D’Elia received his robe from longtime colleague Steven Menaker and Hudson County Superior Court Judge Peter Bariso administered the oath of office.

Gov. Chris Christie (R) nominated D’Elia for the judgeship back on April 18 and was appointed to the post on May 10.

The nominations from the governor’s office must be approved by the state Senators of the district, which of course in Hudson are Sandra Cunningham (D-31), Nick Sacco (D-32) and Brian Stack (D-33).

Sacco, also the North Bergen mayor, touted D’Elia’s accomplishments as part of the ceremony.
