Prosecutor: 3, including 2 teens, charged with murder for fatal Jersey City shooting

Three people, including two teenagers, have been charged with murder for their roles in a fatal Jersey City shooting that occurred in May, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Makiyy Randolph, 21, of Paterson, along with a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, are charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, Suarez said in a statement.

He was arrested on Friday, July 12th, on Gates Avenue in Jersey City after a brief foot pursuit. Randolph was additionally charged with obstruction and resisting arrest by flight. He is currently being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

Both juveniles were arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Thursday, July 11th. Juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time.

On Friday, May 10, 2024, shortly before 10 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Pearsall Avenue and Garfield Avenue.

Responding officers located a male victim – later identified as Resheed Wallace, 24, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.

He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:25 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the upper body and the manner to be homicide.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit with the investigation and arrests.
