Kevin J. Hall, 20, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, unlawful possession of weapon, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident, according to Port Authority spokeswoman Lenis Valens.

Yesterday at approximately 1:06 p.m., Port Authority police were leaving Hoboken, and driving southbound on Observer Highway in route back to Jersey City when they observed a motor vehicle accident on the road involving two vehicles.

When officers approached the second vehicle, the driver, later identified as Hall, ran from the scene. Officers were able to catch up with the man and were joined by Hoboken police.

On scene, the man pulled out a pocket knife and said “I can’t do this right now” as he pressed it to his own throat, causing a minor laceration.

Officers began negotiating with Hall, but he soon took off on foot again. Once they caught up with him, the man pressed the knife to his throat causing another visible laceration.

The officers eventually apprehended the man and a Port Authority officer suffered minor injuries during the altercation, Valens noted.
