On July 6th, a man walked into the Guttenberg Police Department and informed a communications officer that he was going to shoot one of their officers if he saw the cop following him again, the department wrote on their police blotter.

At the time, two Guttenberg patrol officers were engaged in a “park and walk” on Park Avenue, which is aimed to uncover quality of life issues and foster a better relationship with town residents.

Edward Garcia, 54, of Guttenberg, left police headquarters following his statement. He was ultimately arrested and charged with terroristic threats and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Upon the completion of his arrest processing, Garcia was issued his complaint warrant and lodged in the Hudson County Correctional Center, officials said.
