At approximately 10:30 a.m., Hoboken police, fire, and EMS responded to 1100 block of Hudson Street. Residents were asked to avoid the area while an investigation took place and there was no threat to the public, Hoboken public safety spokeswoman Marci Rubin said in an email.

Mayor Emily Jabbour commended the efforts of the Mile Square City’s first responders, as well as acknowledging the serious nature of the situation in a lengthy statement.

” … I want to thank them for their professionalism, compassion, and dedication in handling a very difficult situation. Our thoughts are with the individual’s loved ones during this incredibly challenging time. Incidents of this nature can have an impact not only on those directly affected, but also on neighbors, and the broader community,” she began.

“I recognize that moments like this can be unsettling, and I want to encourage anyone who may be struggling or in need of support to reach out to available resources and look out for one another. This matter remains under active investigation and at this time, the Hoboken Police Department is working to gather all relevant information.”

She continued by asking Hoboken residents to please allow privacy during this time out of respect for the loved ones of the deceased, who has not been identified at this time.

“I am grateful for the swift, coordinated, and compassionate response of our Fire Department, Police Department, and EMS personnel, who continue to serve our community with care every day, especially in moments like this. We will share any additional information if and when it becomes appropriate,” Jabbour concluded.

On Reddit, eyewitnesses confirmed that they saw the body covered on the sidewalk and the police response of the incident lasted at least into the early afternoon.
