Man charged with kidnapping & sexual assault after incident in Downtown Jersey City

A man has been charged with kidnapping and sexual assault after an incident in Downtown Jersey City earlier this month, authorities said.

Marc Toledo, 30, of Jersey City, is charged with aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, sexual Assault, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and criminal restraint, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and later transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

In the morning hours of Sunday, June 2nd, a 22-year-old female victim reported being approached by an unknown man in a Journal Square neighborhood. The victim entered the white vehicle the male was operating.

The man drove the victim a short distance to the area of Division Street and Eighth Street at approximately 7 a.m. The victim reported she was sexually assaulted in the vehicle.

Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Jersey City Police Department. The matter remains under investigation.
