The Jersey City firefighters unions are backing U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez (D-8) for a second term, citing his commitment to first responders in Washington, D.C.By John Heinis/Hudson County View

“Rob is a proven champion for firefighters, emergency medical, and allied support services personnel,” said Jersey City Fire Fighters and Officers Association President Peter Nowak and Uniformed Fire Fighters Association of Jersey City President Joseph W. Krajnik said in a statement.

“He continues to make a tremendous positive impact by creating legislation like H.R. 7702 which will study vessel fires near the shoreline to reduce danger and risk for both firefighters and our communities, and by delivering funding for our first responders. Rob is responsive to our concerns and he has made it clear that he is a strong ally for our unionized brothers and sisters. We have been deeply impressed by Congressman Rob Menendez’s relentless work ethic and we are proud to endorse him for re-election because we know he will always fight for us.”

The Jersey City Fire Officers Association, IAFF Local 1064 and the Uniformed Fire Fighters Association of Jersey City, IAFF Local 1066 are the Unions that protect the men and women of the Jersey City Fire Department who have committed their careers to serving and protecting the residents and visitors of Jersey City.

“I am grateful to be supported by our friends and partners at Jersey City Fire Fighters and Officers,” added Menendez.

“I will always be a strong advocate to secure funding, equipment, health and safety protections, and much more to support our brave fire fighters and courageous first responders. I look forward to our continued collaboration and we will win this election – together.”

The primary is on June 4th, where the Democratic nomination is all but a guarantee to winning in November in navy blue Hudson County (the 8th District also includes Elizabeth and parts of Newark).

Menendez is defending his seat against Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla and first time candidate Kyle Jasey.
