Steven Gordon, 67, of Jersey City, is charged with criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child, Suarez said in a statement.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 5th. Gordon resigned from his position following the investigation.

Gordon’s bio on the school website says he taught freshman health and physical education after retiring from the classroom after 33 years.

“I’m a retired teacher of 33 years. I’ve taught a lot of subjects and hold 5 certificates. My passion is influencing young minds to be their best through acquiring knowledge. After I retired I needed something to do without being tied down,” he wrote.

“By chance I found UACHS & things have been great. I work with a wonderful and caring staff and teach some great kids. The health class is a self paced model with plenty of feedback. It’s more in line with a university style of learning. The Phys Ed classes will be more traditional and incorporate team teaching. I look forward to the coming year and then who knows!”

Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest. Anyone wishing to report a sex crime should call the HCPO SVU at 201-915-1234.
