“The American people deserve leaders committed to ensuring that everyone is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve and has what they need in order to thrive,” Human Rights Campaign Director of National Campaigns Reg Calcagno said in a statement.

“Congressman Menendez is one of those leaders. He has, and will continue to be, a champion for a future with full equality for all. We are proud to endorse Congressman Rob Menendez in his re-election bid and look forward to mobilizing New Jersey Equality Voters to turn out for him at the polls.”

Menendez, running with the support of the majority of Democratic leaders in Essex, Hudson, and Union Counties, is defending his seat against Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla and first time candidate Kyle Jasey – the son of former longtime Assemblywoman Mila Jasey.

“Every single person should be empowered to express their full selves and live authentically. I will always be a strong ally and friend for our LGBTQ+ communities. And I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act in the 118th Congress, which would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to extend non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ individuals,” Menendez said in a statement.

“We must come together to support our communities, protect our hard-fought victories, and ensure that no one faces intolerance simply for being who they are. I am honored to be endorsed for re-election by the Human Rights Campaign and look forward to continued collaboration in our struggle to achieve real equality for all.”

The primary election for New Jersey’s congressional races are June 4th.
