The Hudson County Board of Freeholders unanimously passed a resolution “expressing profound disagreement with the President’s decision to restore full diplomatic relations with Cuba.”
Nearly a month after President Barack Obama agreed to begin the process of normalizing diplomatic relations with the communist government of Cuba, the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders expressed their “profound disagreement” with his decision.
Matthew Perez, representing the International Committee of Ex-Cuban Political Prisoners, expressed his “unequivocal support” to the Hudson County Freeholders for the resolution.
Perez said the deal was a “lifeline” to the Castro regime, which he added was “facing insurmountable economic challenges” exasperated by the effect of falling oil prices on their allies in Venezuela. His full speech can be seen below:

The Hudson County Freeholders aren’t the only local elected officials expressing their disappointment with Obama. The list also includes U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8), and NJ Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32) – all Cuban-Americans – among others.
District 7 Freeholder Caridad Rodriguez (D) told Perez and supporters of the resolution in attendance that she was “happy they came out to express factual statements” of why Obama’s policy shift regarding the oppressive Cuban regime was a “bad idea.”
