Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla revealed that he tested positive for COVID-19, describing his symptoms as mild, earlier this afternoon.
“This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19 before gathering with extended family. I’m thankful that I’ve been vaccinated & boosted as my symptoms are mild,” he wrote after offering Christmas wishes from his family.
“It goes to show that vaccines and boosters work. Protect your loved ones and get vaccinated and boosted if you haven’t already. Stay safe and be well!”
Bhalla is the second Hudson County mayor to announce a positive test this week, with Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop doing so on Wednesday, as HCV first reported.
He said at the time he was asymptomatic and credited being vaccinated and getting a booster shot for preventing his case from being more serious.
The infectious Omicron variant has contributed to cases spiking throughout the country, with the New Jersey Department of Health reporting 1,408 new cases in Hudson via PCR testing on Christmas Day.
