Catherine Healy, the daughter of former Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, will run with former Gov. Jim McGreevey for the Ward D city council seat.

“Mayor Healy and the Healy family represent the ‘gold standard’ in public service for Jersey City. Catherine Healy’s experience in labor law, social services, and public safety makes her a critical force for good,” McGreevey said in a statement.
“Catherine and her family’s commitment to fairness, working families, and fiscal responsibility is precisely the kind of leadership we need on the city council.”
Jerramiah Healy served as mayor between 2004 and 2013 before being unseated by then-Ward E Councilman Steven Fulop. He has been an early donor and support of McGreevey’s bid for mayor.
Catherine Healy is the seventh member announced for McGreevey’s eventual nine-member council slate.
She joins Brandi Warren in Ward A, Erfrain Badilla Orleans Jr. in Ward B, Councilman Rich Boggiano in Ward C, Ryan Baylock in Ward E, and Gloria Walton in Ward F, and Art House Executive Director Meredith Burns at-large.
“I’ve spent my career standing up for working families, fighting for fairness, and making sure government works for the people it’s supposed to serve,” added Catherine Healy.
“Jersey City shaped who I am—from growing up in the Heights to raising my own children here—and I’m running for City Council to give back to the community that has given me so much. We need leadership that listens, leads with integrity, and delivers real results for Ward D.”
She currently serves as the deputy director of the Hudson County Department of Family Services and Reintegration, as well as chief counsel and in-house labor and employment counsel.
“Catherine is a hard-working, dedicated professional who puts the people of Jersey City and Hudson County first. Her legal expertise helps our most vulnerable residents receive critically needed support,” noted Hudson County Executive Craig Guy.
The Ward D council race is getting crowded, with Patrick Ambrossi and Jake Ephros running independently, Elvin Dominici on Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea’s (D-2) slate, and Veronica Akaezuwa running on Ward E Councilman James Solomon’s ticket.
Incumbent Yousef Saleh is currently seeking state Assembly seat in the 32nd Legislative District on Fulop’s ticket as part of his pursuit for governor.

Menendez, Payne, Vainieri, DeGise, and now Healy. The HCDO can’t get enough of absolute literal nepotism.
