Authorities investigating North Bergen hit-and-run that badly injured pedestrian

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is investigating an early morning North Bergen hit-and-run that badly injured a pedestrian.

Shortly before 5 a.m., the North Bergen Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of 2600 Tonnelle Ave., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

Responding officers located a male victim — later identified as a 42-year-old Union City resident — with serious injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.

The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he remains in critical but stable condition.

The circumstances of the collision are being investigated by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit with assistance from the North Bergen Police Department.
