“We are proud to support Congressman Menendez for re-election,” AFSCME New Jersey Council 63 Executive Director Steve Tully said in a statement.

“He understands the importance of the vital public services that AFSCME members provide to the people of the 8th Congressional District. Congressman Menendez has not only been there for the people of the 8th District, but he has always been there for AFSCME members and we are proud to stand with him.”

Menendez has a healthy amount of labor support heading into the June 2nd primary, including the Hudson County Building and Construction Trades Council, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), 32BJ SEIU, and the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council.

“I am proud to have the support of the people who make our state, county, and local governments work for all of our residents,” the congressman added.

“AFSCME’s endorsement reflects the work that we have done to support working families and public employees, and it is an honor to have it. We share the same goal of delivering high-quality services for our residents and I will always do everything I can to make sure that they can keep doing their critical work.”

Menendez is expected to defend his seat against former Jersey City Board of Education President Mussab Ali.
