Jersey City resident La-Trenda Ross was informed that she had breast cancer late last year and a friend has started a GoFundMe for her, while she has decided to start a nonprofit group that has an event set in Hoboken for next month.

“The news was devastating, but La-Trenda’s spirit remains unshaken. Her family quickly rallied around her, and a wave of love and support poured in from friends and the broader community,” Juana Penson wrote in the GoFundMe page description.
“Even while enduring weekly chemotherapy sessions that last 3–4 hours, La-Trenda continues to show up for others — just as she always has. Now, she’s turning this challenge into purpose: launching a foundation in 2026 to support other women and men navigating cancer.”
The page has set a goal of $30,000 to cover the costs of wigs, clothing, meal gift cards, rent, and groceries and has currently raised $3,935 to date from 52 donors.
In an email, Ross told HCV that she is also going to use a portion of the proceeds to start the R.E.L.L.E Legacy Foundation.
“This foundation is dedicated to providing financial and emotional support to individuals affected by breast cancer, ensuring they feel seen, supported, and empowered,” she explained.
In partnership with the Taper and Tonic Barbershop, located at 601 Jefferson St., Ross will be hosting an event called “Brave & Beyond Pink: Together We Rise” on Saturday, October 25th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Ross further stated that this Breast Cancer Awareness Month event will bring together survivors, fighters, families, and advocates to celebrate resilience, raise awareness, and offer real support.
During the event, 10 individuals currently diagnosed with breast cancer or survivors will be awarded with up to $250 each to help with essential expenses such as medical co-pays or bills, groceries, utility or phone bills, as well as transportation and daily necessities.
