Union City reports 50 COVID-19-related fatalities and 1,346 confirmed cases

For the first time, the City of Union City has reported their number of COVID-19-related fatalities, pegging that number at 50, as well as disclosing they now have 1,346 confirmed cases.

“Union City has 1,345 cases today with, unfortunately, 50 fatalities. Case numbers may seem high, but we attribute some of it to increased testing,” city spokeswoman Erin Knoedler said in an email.

She added that data regarding recoveries was not immediately available as of Tuesday evening.

The North Hudson coronavirus testing site is located on 36th Street in Union City between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Bergenline Avenue.

Residents of North Bergen, West New York, Weehawken, and Guttenberg, are also eligible to schedule an appointment at this facility.

Earlier today, the New Jersey Department of Health announced that there are 8,242 COVID-19 cases in Hudson County, the second most statewide, and 277 deaths – the third most in the state by county.

As of 8:30 p.m., other tallies disclosed per municipality are as follows:

Jersey City – 2,674, North Bergen – 1,239, West New York – 892, Bayonne – 436, Kearny – 421, Hoboken – 322, Secaucus – 258, Weehawken – 173, Harrison – 150, Guttenberg – 128, East Newark – 22
