U.S. Sen. Menendez, HC officials, call for bi-state ban on tourist helicopters

U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and various Hudson County officials gathered in Hoboken to call for a bi-state ban on tourist helicopters on August 8, 2014.

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), along with a laundry list of Hudson County officials, held a press conference at Pier A in Hoboken on Friday calling for a ban of tourist helicopters in New Jersey and New York.

Those joining Menendez in the Mile Square City included:

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Robert Gottheim, the district director for U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY, D-10), Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner – who spoke on behalf of U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8) as his chief of staff, Cosmo Cirillo, the senior advisor for Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto, West New York Mayor Felix Roque,Guttenberg Mayor Gerald Drasheff, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez, Freeholder Anthony Romano and Brian Wagner, the co-founder of advocacy group Stop the Chop New Jersey.

After the speeches concluded, Menendez answered questions from the media on the subject, explaining what measures and what sort of timeline would be involved in banning tourist helicopters.

Finally, Wagner gave Hudson County View some background on this quality of life issue that has been lingering for at least two years now.
