A West Orange man was busted with a loaded handgun and hollow point bullets after getting caught driving on the sidewalk in Hoboken, police said.
Jalis Lliguicota, 18, of West Orange, has been charged with DWI, reckless driving, driving on the sidewalk, being an unlicensed driver, Possession of a controlled dangerous substance in motor vehicle, having tinted windows, possession of handgun, defacing a firearm, possession of hollow point bullets, and possession of a high-capacity magazine, according to Police Det. Sgt. Jonathan Mecka.
Shortly after 3:00 a.m. this morning, Officer Harold Milne observed a Black Toyota driving on the pedestrian walkway in the area of 8th and Sinatra Drive.
Prior to approaching the vehicle, he advised communications, who dispatched back-up units. Once the vehicle drove back onto the street, he conducted a motor-vehicle stop.
During the stop, the driver was identified as Lliguicota. During the on-scene investigation, he was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. He was also found to be in possession of a defaced firearm, loaded with hollow point bullets.
When the on-scene investigation was complete, Lliguicota was transported to police headquarters where he provided breath samples for chemical testing, authorities said.
