The grandfather, 68, of Secaucus, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault, Miller said in a statement, and his name is not being released to protect the identity of the minor.
The incident occurred yesterday at Walmart, 400 Park Plaza Dr., around 9:40 a.m. and police received a call indicating that a man struck a toddler in the head.
Responding to an email from HCV, Miller indicated that the grandson is 3 years old and had a minor cut/scratch along his face and neck from being hit.
The grandfather was issued a complaint summons for the aforementioned charges before being released from police custody, authorities said.
