Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari has confirmed that the two deaths, as well as a third victim who is in critical condition, are the result of a car jumping the curb and striking the three juveniles.

The two victims pronounced dead at the scene were 16 – and 17-year-old, respectively, while the 3rd juvenile in critical condition is also 17, Schillari said in a statement.

One arrest has been made in connection with the incident, though Schillari declined to release anymore information at this time.

Two individuals are dead and another is in critical condition after being struck by a car around 9:20 p.m. last night in North Bergen, Hudson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bruce Miller told Hudson County View early this morning.

Hudson County View happened to drive by the scene by chance around 1:15 a.m. and North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue, the North Bergen Police Department and North Bergen Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were all still tending to the incident – which occurred near the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and 26th Street.

According to two young onlookers who said they attended Union City High School, the two individuals killed were classmates of theirs.

Hudson County View has recently identified the deceased as Bryan Rodriguez, a student at Union City High School, and Noel Herrera, a sophomore at Cliffside Park High School.

Should that information be true, it would be the second accident where young lives were lost in North Hudson in the past five days, as the West New York community is still reeling from the death of 7-year-old Sheyla Pichardo.
