In a letter to the editor, now former Hoboken 5th Ward council candidate Liz Urtecho thanked her supporters despite not getting the result she had hoped for on Election Day.
Dear Editor and neighbors,
On election night, I struggled to come up with the right words to say, because I was too emotional and exhausted to say the perfect, inspiring words that sums up how I feel about losing this election.
I want to thank all of you – volunteers and donors – who invested in me and our grassroots effort. This has always been the “we” campaign.
It all started with a close knit group of neighbors and evolved into a community that spanned the entire ward, all with one purpose – to effect positive change in Hoboken.
For me, the best part of this journey has been developing new and meaningful friendships along the way. While we didn’t get the result we hoped for, I believe we made a difference.
My 15 year old son, Ian, who was away for Election Day texted me,
“Hey Mom, I heard about the election. I just wanted to say to not stop helping the people in the fifth ward and the people of Hoboken because they really do need you. I love you tons.”
How I serve Hoboken residents moving forward is yet to be determined, but for now, I will recharge and spend time with my family and friends, who will point me in the right direction.
