Jersey City man sentenced to 17 years in prison for fatally beating his girlfriend

A Jersey City man was sentenced to 17 years in prison last week for fatally beating his girlfriend back in 2021, authorities announced today.

On Thursday, July 25th, Hudson County Superior Court Judge Angelo Servidio sentenced Tyquan Baisden to 17 years in New Jersey State Prison for the 2021 death of 27-year-old Diamond Davila of Jersey City, Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

Baisden, 28, of Jersey City, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter on May 2nd. His sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act and he is parole ineligible until 85 percent of his sentence is served.

On October 19th, 2021, members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of a deceased female at 131 Woodlawn Ave. in Jersey City. Responding officers found a lifeless woman at that location.

The woman, later identified as Davila, was pronounced dead at 3:08 p.m. The Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be Homicidal Violence and the manner of death to be Homicide.
