“The pandemic has taken an economic toll on our communities and has left many families struggling to pay the bills and make ends meet,”  Menendez said.

“Thankfully, the American Rescue Plan is delivering this much needed funding so that communities across New Jersey can increase safe and healthy housing options to support individuals and families who’ve found themselves without a home or on the brink of losing their home during the pandemic.”

15 housing authorities received federal funding and Jersey City received the second largest allocation on the list, with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs receiving the bulk of the allocation: $11,530,452.

“The coronavirus pandemic has exposed and exacerbated the serious housing crisis that is negatively impacting families throughout New Jersey and across our nation,” added Booker.

“As we continue to battle this public health crisis, we must ensure that all New Jerseyans have access to safe and reliable housing. Federal funding like this from the American Rescue Plan is needed now more than ever to help New Jersey’s public housing authorities best serve those facing homelessness.”
