Jersey City Councilwoman-at-Large Amy DeGise has the pre-trial hearing for her July 19th hit-and-run set for January 10th at the Veterans Courthouse, located at 470 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Newark, the court confirmed.
DeGise, 37, faces two motor vehicle summonses: leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident for the mid-summer incident where she hit an Uber Eats bicyclist near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Forrest Avenue.
Andy Black, who ran a red light around 8 a.m., was flipped off his bicycle and only sustained minor injuries.
DeGise faced international scrutiny for the crash after CCTV footage showed that she didn’t stop at the scene.
Additional security camera footage revealed that the former Hudson County Democratic Organization chair reported the incident in person at the West District about six hours later.
Since then, her driving record, living situation, and prior unpaid bills have come to light, along with getting caught on a police body cam video trying to use her political influence to get a Hoboken police officer to prevent her illegally parked SUV from getting towed.
Calls to resign were loud at the first city council meeting after the incident, where DeGise said she had no plans to step down and also addressed death threats, though public outcry had subsided to some extent by the subsequent meeting.
“I would like to deal with this privately, but it has gotten vulgar. I am appreciative of everyone who came out tonight … I hope no one here is subject to this amount of trauma. I am not resigning. My commitment is genuine,” she said, in part, on August 17th.
As of this writing, no trial date has been set and a spokesman for DeGise could not be immediately reached for comment.
