In the past week, the City of Hoboken has reported just 16 new cases of COVID-19, bringing their total to 489, with no new fatalities, keeping their cumulative number at 23.

“Yesterday, the Hoboken Health Department reported four additional cases of COVID-19 in Hoboken, with no fatalities. Hoboken has a total of 489 known, confirmed cases of COVID-19, with a total of 23 fatalities,” Mayor Ravi Bhalla said in his daily coronavirus update.
“We have now fortunately been one week without a fatality, which is a very encouraging sign. As we expected, Riverside has expanded capacity and testing at their site, and is conducting more tests than before which now includes asymptomatic individuals.”
Due to more testing by the Riverside Medical Group, along with more first responders getting tested, the mayor said to expect more comprehensive results on Monday.
Additionally, he addressed why all of Hoboken’s parks remain closed, despite some county parks opening today.
“Many of our Hoboken parks contain primarily playground equipment – for example Madison Street Park, Jefferson Park and Pier C – which unfortunately will stay closed as we will be following guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention,” Bhalla explained.
“Playground equipment could spread the virus as it is very difficult to keep it clean and disinfected … I know many residents will be disappointed that parks are not open this weekend. I understand and share your frustration, and I respect that you may disagree.”
Yesterday afternoon, the New Jersey Department of Health indicated that there are 15,148 cases of COVID-19 in Hudson County and 819 deaths, the second and third most in the state by county, respectively.
