Darian Veliu, 24, of Elmwood Park, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest on November 20th, Mecka said in a statement.

On that date, Veliu was arrested at approximately 1 a.m. after officers responded to the area of 1st and Washington Street on the report of a fight in progress.

Upon arriving, there was no active fights, however, while dealing with the crowd, Veliu continued to act disorderly.

While attempting to be placed under arrest, he resisted, leading to Police Officer Jessie Castellano injuring his ankle.

After gaining control of Veliu, he was processed and his charges were placed on a summons.

Mecka added that Castellano was not badly hurt and was able to finish his shift.

This is the second incident in the past week where at least one Hoboken police officer was injured: Police Officers Leo Colon and Anthony Fesken were hurt after attempting to make an arrest related to a knife incident on November 16th.
