After being a staple of his campaign for months, Hoboken Ward 4 Councilman Ruben Ramos has formally endorsed colleague Mike DeFusco for mayor.

“Mike DeFusco is the only candidate running for Mayor who truly understands what makes Hoboken so special — the people who live here,†Ramos said in a statement.
“Mike is a valued colleague of mine on the City Council and a tireless advocate for his constituents. As Mayor, I know he will fight hard for everyone. I’m proud to support Mike DeFusco and his entire team.â€
Long before DeFusco announced his candidacy in May, Ramos served as an emcee when his fellow councilman hosted a fundraiser at Cadillac Cantina in February. Councilman-at-Large Ravi Bhalla, whose also now running for mayor, hosted an event the same evening.
Ramos has since been key in helping build relationships for DeFusco, helping fundraise, plan meet and greets and register voters.
“I’m honored to be endorsed by Councilman Ramos, someone I consider not just a colleague but a true friend who shares my vision for a more progressive and inclusive future for our city,†added DeFusco.
“Our campaign isn’t about old Hoboken or new Hoboken, but about bridging the political divides that have held our community back for far too long. I look forward to working hard to earn every vote in this election and I thank Ruben Ramos for his strong support for our campaign.â€
Ramos endorsement is the third one from those who sit upon the dais in the Mile Square City: 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo is backing Freeholder Anthony Romano (D-5), while 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher is supporting Council President Jen Giattino.
None of the endorsements are particularly shocking, but there are inevitably many more to come with the November 7th municipal elections just 49 days away.
