The Hoboken Business Alliance has announced “First Street Sundays” in September and October, which aims to provide a family friendly, car free atmosphere on 1st Street between Washington and Garden Streets.

The first event in the series, which creates a downtown pedestrian plaza, will kickoff on September 10th and run every Sunday through October 22nd.
The roadway to vehicular traffic and parking from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., with programming starting at 12 noon and ending at 7 p.m.
“We are excited to give residents and visitors safe access to First Street on foot, and more importantly, additional access to the wonderful restaurants, shops, and other businesses in that area,” HBA Executive Director Roxanne Earley said in a statement.
“Following on from the success of past years, and taking into account the feedback we have received from businesses and patrons in the area to adapt the program, we are confident that this is going to be our most successful year yet.”
In addition to providing public seating, the HBA will also host outdoor games and free activities for all ages, as well programming from local small businesses.
As part of the effort, the HBA has made funding available to allow for businesses and organizations and to offer the programming free of charge to those visiting First Street Sundays.

“We have come to love Sundays in the fall as it opens up our neighborhood to new visitors, and that has meant more chances to grow our small business.”
New to First Street Sundays this year will be a dedicated ride share drop off and customer parking for those with appointments at businesses along 1st Street.
Four outdoor beer gardens for those 21 years old and older will also be available.
“We are excited to see First Street Sundays back. First Street Sundays have been such a blast and the bars, market, and activities have really brought 1st Street to life,” Kevin Tague, owner of Tipsy Tie Dye, added.
