The event, which will be hosted at the Hank Gallo Center in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., aims to give residents a forum to address elected officials over the end-of-year surge in violence crime in 2015.

Fulop first addressed the subject in a Facebook post in late November, after five fatalities had taken place in a 12 day period.

The post came hours after Fulop attended a meeting of the Jersey City NAACP, which was not advertised, referring to the event as a “good community meeting on the collective solutions” for violent crime – also writing that “each shooting is tragic.”

The mayor, a long rumored Democratic candidate for governor in 2017, has also pointed to 150 new police officers being hired by his administration as a sincere effort to keep the streets safe.
