Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said that charter schools are “bridging the gap” for city families as traditional schools are being improved during a question and answer session at a Democratic event in Woodland Park.

After clarifying that he supports “NJEA (New Jersey Education Association) Union Charter Schools” under the right circumstances, Fulop explained that education is typically a tough problem to solve in urban areas like Jersey City.
“When you look at places like Jersey City, the biggest challenge that you have, in an urban area like that, is the education system,” he said to a crowd of primarily Little Falls and Woodland Park residents at the American Legion at 410 Mt. Pleasant Ave.
“I really do believe that charter schools have a place in that, in bridging the gap so to speak, as we repair or improve our neighborhood schools.”
