Family, friends march for ‘Justice for Lavon’ following funeral for Lavon King

Family and friends mourned the death of Lavon King, a 20-year-old man who was fatally shot by a Jersey City police officer, a little over a month following his death.

According to authorities,
on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, Lavon King was fatally shot in the chest by a Jersey City police officer during a struggle. Family and friends mourning his death dismissed the description of events given by authorities, with many calling for “Justice for Lavon,” including Rev. Herbert Daughtry who eulogized King.

Following the funeral, mourners marched from Watson Mortuary Services to the corner of Grant Ave. and MLK Dr. to re-erect the memorial for King which was ripped down by the city on Mayor Steven Fulop’s orders.(rough cuts/no narration)
