The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP) will host a virtual Rebuild by Design meeting at 7 p.m., which will go over logistics such as upcoming road closures in Hoboken, potentially including Jersey Avenue.

“I strongly encourage all residents to attend—especially because Jersey Avenue will be closed for a period, affecting one of our busiest southern exit points,” 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, a candidate for mayor, said in a newsletter yesterday.
“To say our hair was on fire when we heard—just before the PATH station was set to reopen—is an understatement. CM Ramos and I have been pushing back—hard. First with the administration, then with the NJDEP. Jersey Avenue cannot be fully closed.”
She called the expected closure “incredibly disruptive” for residents who rely on the exit daily, as well as having a negative impact on the businesses in the southern end of the city.
A city Nixle alert from Friday says that this phase of Rebuild by Design will remove approximately 80 percent of the city from “a FEMA-designated flood plain.”

Ramos, another candidate for mayor, also encouraged residents to attend in an email blast that went out on Monday, as did 1st Ward Councilman Paul Presinzano in his own email blast yesterday.
“This project will lower the cost of flood insurance many residents are required to have for their buildings,” Presinzano wrote.
“While this is critical infrastructure work, the community should have been given more advance notice and information on its potential impact. City officials will provide updates on construction plans and traffic mitigation efforts, and I encourage you to attend.”
