The ticket is comprised of Trustees Jonathan Castaneda, Ana Sanchez, and Douglas Velasquez, with Castaneda, the town’s special projects manager, seeking his third term while Sanchez and Velasquez were appointed in January.

“I am grateful and excited our team has received so much support from our community and I am proud of all that we have accomplished together,” Castaneda began in a statement.

“From our numerous capital improvement investments at Coviello Field and all of our schools to our designation as a Future Ready and High Performing School District, to recertifying for Middle States Accreditation at MHS, to ensuring every kid has access to a laptop computer, and to our other academic and athletic achievements – all albeit the pandemic.”

They are in a head-to-head contest against the trio of Dorinne Auriemma, Vipul Parekh, and Jose Valdez. Kelvin Hiciano, the only independent candidate in the race, didn’t make the ballot due to a lack of valid signautres.

“Our students deserve the very best, as a lifelong resident of West New York and as a parent of a current student with special needs and a parent of a past student that attended Public School Number Six and Memorial High School, I know firsthand the challenges our students face,” noted Sanchez.

“The Board of Education plays a pivotal role in the success of our schools, and our team pledges to make decisions that will enhance our high performing school district,” Velasquez added.

The polls will be open from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on April 19th and poll locations can be found here.
