The West New York Police Department has formally announced that crime is down 20.4 percent for the first quarter of 2016, also noting that they will be acquiring four new vehicles at no expense to the taxpayer.

The 20.4 percent figure comes from statistics compiled from the State of New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, which Mayor Felix Roque credited to the “professionalism and dedication of the WNYPD for their continued service to the community.”
The mayor also credited the residents of West New York who reported suspicious activity to the police department as another contributing factor for crime dropping.
Roque further stated that the town’s police fund will be utilized to purchase four 2016 Ford Explorer Police SUVs, which come equipped with pursuit rated and all-wheel drive, as well as two mechanically and electronically controlled locking gun racks.
Also the commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, Roque first mentioned the crime decrease and the newly acquired police vehicles after expressing his support last week for renewing Police Director Robert Antolos’ contract through the end of the year.
