West New York police promote 2 new lieutenants, 2 new sergeants

The West New York Police Department promoted four new officers last night: with two officers earning the distinction of lieutenant, and two more getting recognized as sergeant.

Marcos Garciga and Ray Hernandez were awarded their lieutenant badges before officers Jorge Ramos and Carlos Mateos got their formal promotions to sergeant.

Mayor Felix Roque, the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, led the promotion ceremonies.

The court chambers on the second floor of Town Hall were as packed as they’ve ever been as residents, friends and family showed up to support the department.

In closing, Captain Santiago Cabrera gave a brief speech that ended with a quote from John C. Maxwell:

“The single biggest way to impact an organization is to focus on leadership development. There is almost no limit to the potential of an organization that recruits good people, raises them up as leaders and continually develops them to their best ability.”

Police Director Robert Antolos told Hudson County View that the four promoted officers had “an unbelievable work ethic” and added that “today’s a good day for the West New York Police Department.”

  1. This was an excellent group of officers getting well deserved promotions. They make great police representatives for the town of West New York and will do so in the years to come.Congratulations to all the officers and families , the courtroom was packed with love and pride.God bless and Merry Christmas to all.

  2. Wonder why this is always news with photos, videos etc. Between them and firefighters more taxpayer money is spent to go through this nonsense. A garbageman doesn’t get media coverage when getting promoted etc. Hero worship at it’s best. Then you got award ceremonies.
True story, a neighbor put a ladder up so a few can get down from a fire in a building. The firefighters ( my cousin was one) got there and got awards for rescuing the people by bringing them down a ladder in Jersey City. Happened I believe on Griffith St.
Anyway, why get awards from doing your JOB that pays you for LIFE? Please keep that crap about “life on the line BS” out of it. My uncle never touched his gun in 20 years.

    • This isn’t the same world your uncle worked in. Consider yourself lucky your uncle got to reach the end of his career safely, bUT consider that maybe he also didn’t want to worry his family so he kept a lot of things to himself such as all the domestic disputes he helped mediate or people he helped weather the low points in their lives. Get some life experience and common sense under your belt before you feel the need to criticize!

  3. What West NY does these people in the Video live?

West NY I live in Crime is infested and very high. Seems these people don’t know West NY as the people that live here.

Promoting and Praising the Cops is a joke.. There is absolutely no Policing going on in West NY. No one see’s the Police in this town.

  4. As a child I grew up 3 doors from the WNY Police Headquarters. I have gone through 3 generations of fine men and women….My younger years, I saw these men as second fathers to me., as I got older the next generation were like brothers and sisters to me, and now today I see them as if they are my “nieces and nephews….I am a huge supporter of our men and women in all uniforms and will always support them….Congratulations Ray, Marcos, Jorge and Carlos!!!!
