West New York parents held a protest that spanned between the town hall and the board of education building, pleading to get a new bus route for students that have been transferred from Harry L. Bain Elementary School to St. Joseph of the Palisades school (5401 Broadway).Â
Superintendent of Schools John Fauta told Hudson County View the idea is borderline impossible.
Mayoral hopeful Carlos “Chucky†Betancourt supported and marched behind the parents on this issue, telling Hudson County View that the board of education has a lot to answer for on this issue.
Fauta told a different story, stating that this change for the upcoming school year was announced to parents back in February.
Furthermore, he explained that between the current BOE budget and state statutes, it would be essentially impossible to introduce a new bus into the school district.
Poor John Fauta…so many years in the district and so secure with his job and paycheck that he can no longer connect to the needs of the community. Where are the school social workers assessing the needs of the community? West New York has really disappointed on a number of levels because people like Fauta cannot give up his paycheck. It’s also sad to his he has obvious medical needs, maybe beginning Parkinson’s, but he won’t retire until that pension is fat. I hope to move my children out of this county if changes are not seen through as of this school year. In a place where children are supposed to be given priority and attention, the dollar sign has higher status than the concern of all children who have to experience this treatment.
