The West New York Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) and Police Sergeant’s Association (PSA) donated $5,000 to the American Cancer Society, while the town painted a thin blue line on 60th Street near Town Hall to show their solidarity with the department.

In an event that supported both Breast Cancer Awareness month and the local police, PBA President Thomas Mannion called the SWAT team up to the podium before presenting Mayor Felix Roque and Commissioners Sue Colacurcio and Gabriel Rodriguez an enlarged photo of the last time they were in action as at thank you for their continued support.
Roque then offered some words commending the officers for what they do on a day-to-day basis.
“When I wake up in the morning, I can imagine how a family feels, whether its a female or a male police officer, goes out of the house not knowing if they’re going to come back alive,” said Roque, who went on to say he is “blessed” for having the department that he has.
Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez (D-32), a childhood friend of Mannion, also gave her vote of confidence to the boys in blue.
“Everyday when I go out in the morning, I pray for my kids, but I always keep my friends, I love Tom to death, but I keep the police officer close to me because I pray to God what happens when I hear the crazy stories that are happening across out country, that distrust in police force, I pray to God that I never have to go through that in my district, especially in my town.”
After accepting the $5,000 check from the West New York PBA and PSA, who also had assistance from Synergy Sports and Rehabilitation, American Cancer Society Community Events Senior Manager Nancy Damato explained why this donation goes a long way.
Colacurcio and Roque then presented Police Director Robert Antolos with a proclamation from the town dedicating the thin blue street line to the police department, which the director graciously accepted by thanking many officials and officers at the podium.
