“Matt Schneider and Tia Rezabala represent the forward-thinking leadership our schools need. Their dedication to educational excellence and fiscal accountability aligns perfectly with my vision for Jersey City’s future,” she said in a statement.

Watterman, a declared candidate for mayor, also emphasized that Schneider and Rezabala are well-equipped to tackle the challenges facing Jersey City’s educational system.

Their combined expertise in business strategy, mental health advocacy, teaching, and financial management positions them uniquely to address issues such as budget optimization, student well-being, and infrastructure improvements, she added.

One of Watterman’s running mates, Alexander Hamilton (pictured above), who is seeking the Ward E council seat, is a former BOE trustee.

The non-partisan November 5th contest features seven candidates vying for three seats (all three-year terms) on the volunteer governing body. Watterman opted not to endorse for the third seat up for grabs.

Schneider, a business strategist and owner of a mental health practice, and Rezabala a former high school teacher, look to stop another sweep by the “Education Matters” slate backed by the Jersey City Education Association.

In addition to the teachers union, the team consisting of Trustee Natalia Ioffe, Ahmed Kheir, and Melany Cruz Burgos have the backing of Hudson County Executive Craig Guy, County Commissioner Bill O’Dea, also a mayoral candidate, and Councilman-at-Large Daniel Rivera – who is seeking re-election on O’Dea’s ticket.

Furthermore, Sumit “Sam” Salia and Miriam Tawfiles are running as independents.
