“I am proud to endorse Congressman Rob Menendez for re-election. Rob always delivers for my hometown of North Bergen,” Wainstein began in a statement.

“He fights to make our community more affordable, supports expanding early childhood education, advocates for common sense gun safety laws, and is someone who we can always depend on. I am grateful for his tremendous leadership, as well as for his friendship.”

Wainstein also noted the importance of a strong effort for Democratic candidates this year, given that North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco and his board of commissioners endorsed a Republican slate against him and the HCDO in November.

“North Bergen needs a congressman who will always stand up for the people of our town, not pander to Donald Trump like Sacco and his cronies do,” he chided.

His support is totally expected after the HCDO and Stack went with the incumbent, first elected in 2022.

Wainstein ran on Stack’s ticket last year, and alongside Assemblyman Gabe Rodriguez, decisively defeated Frank Alonso and Tony Hector, who ran on Mayor Steven Fulop’s “Democrats for Change” slate with Sacco’s backing as well.

Menendez endorsed both Wainstein and Rodriguez in that race, so in a sense, Wainstein is returning the favor here.

“Rob has been a vital partner for Hudson County in Washington and at home. From bringing back federal resources for critical infrastructure projects to being on the frontlines in standing up to Trump to protect and defend our communities, we have always been able to depend on Rob,” HCDO Chair Craig Guy, also the county executive, said yesterday.

“Whether it is securing funding for our community improvement projects, or handling constituent issues, Rob has always been a strong fighter for our residents. Sending him back to Washington is a critical priority of mine and I am proud to give him my full support,” added Stack.
