“It is with deep sorrow we announce that Union City Police Department Lt. Gregory Katseyeanis #258 has passed away,” Chief Richard Molinari wrote on the UCPD’s Twitter page at 9:06 p.m. this evening.

“Lt. Gregory Katseyeanis was currently assigned to the Patrol Division. Arrangements will be announced as soon as they have been finalized.”

The department did not release any other details at this time, but multiple sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak on the matter, said that Katseyeanis, 53, passed from a heart attack.

This marks the fourth active officer the UCPD has lost since late 2016, with Officer Ricardo Fernandez, Sgt. Mark Zeitounian and Officer John Camel passing between December 2016 and July 2017.
