UPDATED: Union City mother seeking public’s help to locate 11-year-old son who went missing yesterday


A Union City mother is seeking the public’s help to locate her 11-year-old son that went missing yesterday in the midst of the current heat wave.

Maylin Baraqui, the mother of Jairo Urena Hernandez, Jr., put out a Facebook appeal seeking the public’s help to locate her child.

She wrote that he’s been missing since yesterday at 6 p.m. and that anyone with any information should contact her immediately at 917-432-4881 or the Union City Police Department at 201-232-1904.

The boy is described as having brown eyes, black hair, and a medium complexion.

According to the Union City Police Department, Jairo was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, black shorts, and black sandals.

He is approximately 4 feet and weighs about 100 pounds. Jairo was last seen in the area of 4th Street and Bergenline Avenue and is in need of medication.

There is no known possible destination for Jairo, but he does frequent local parks, authorities said.

At 4:13 p.m., the Union City Police Department said he had been found and safely returned to his family.
